It’s my personal belief that enormous power and momentum is created when we bring business innovation and talent development together.
Business innovation has always been my focus. Even as a kid, I would always think about how I could do things in a smarter way next time around. I think that is why I was asked to join the national and international boards of my regatta sailing association as a young teenager. I realised that by itself, business innovation often becomes elitist – only for top-management, strategy teams and innovation teams. Too often, employees are considered a change-challenge leading to initiatives that fail or are not sustainable.
Another passion of mine is talent development, allowing people to unlock their full potential – and everyone has talents! As a youngster, I enjoyed the opportunity to grow as a sailor, but it’s not that long ago I realised how lucky I was that my parents stimulated the growth-mindset of my sister and myself. That’s why it makes me happy that today I can help young athletes in my home city discover and develop their talents and help make their young sporting dreams come true.
However, talent development on its own also misses the point if it doesn’t have any impact other than on someone's self-esteem. The flaws of both, business innovation and talent development, disappear when we bring them together:
- Companies unlock the huge power within all their employees when they are properly developed, passionate and eager to collectively drive innovation in their company and push it on to do great things.
- Employees feel so much more rewarded and satisfied when they – as a team – make a difference, day in day out.
That is why I am inspired to explore and share new and better practices to bring business innovation and talent development together. Download my report 'Adapt or Die' and learn about the major challenges of change and continuous innovation.
