I had the pleasure of doing a keynote presentation during Conference of Things in Stockholm - Copperberg’s 3rd annual conference on the Internet of Things. Again, this was a good exchange of insights, challenges and practices by a pretty diverse group of highly engaged participants.
Some take-aways and observations from various presentation, discussions and interactive roundtable sessions:
- Industrial manufacturers are increasingly committed to solving meaningful and complex problems, like earth’s resources and aging population. Like RamiAvidan (CEO Tele2 IoT) mentioned: “Exponential problems need Exponential Solutions”. So we can expect some disruptive change.
- People are at the heart of every digital solution (Daan Smans, ThyssenKrupp)
- We talk a lot about big opportunities to develop new capabilities and new compelling value propositions and drive revenue and profit.However, we do not talk so much about changing competitive landscape.
- Will the new propositions make it easier or harder for customers to switch (service) provider?
- Will new solutions be multi-vendor platform solutions?
- What impact to expect from new entrants like fast moving system integrators and the next generation of data and algorithm based companies?
- We need to focus more on new value offerings which will be highly compelling for specific customer segments. These value propositions are crucial for success and monetization. Predictive maintenance, IoT, product-as-a-service are not the value propositions, these are capabilities and elements of a business model.
- Most manufacturing companies need more momentum for bigger and ongoing business innovation and change. The digital world with new players is changing rapidly.
